FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE

There would be few songs that mark the late 1980s and early 1990s like She Has To Be Loved and Break In The Weather. Belted out by songstress Jenny Morris, these tracks not only adorned the Australian music charts, but also the airwaves (and the bedrooms) of Australians everywhere. Now the woman behind these hits is heading to far North Queensland for two very special nights in Vertigo Bar, The Reef Hotel Casino.

Although not originally an Aussie, Jenny Morris (OAM) was born in New Zealand and experienced her early career success working with The Crocodiles who had a Top 20 hit Tears. She crossed the waters to Australia in 1981 and began what has been an illustrious and award-winning music career. In her early years, she formed a trio called QED, provided backing vocals for a large number of artists, including INXS on their 1983 release The Swing consequently toured with the band on their Listen Like Thieves World Tour in 1985-1986. As a soloist, she recorded a duet with Michael Hutchence of Jackson (cover of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood’s hit) which reached number two on the Australian Kent Music Report Albums Chart (the track was released on INXS EP Dekadance).

But it was with her own solo career that Jenny really earned her stripes, and acclaim. Releasing albums Shiver in 1989 and Honeychild in 1991, she worked her way into the Top 5 Australasian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Album chart, and had two Top 5 ARIA singles with Break In The Weather and She Has To Be Loved. Her album and singles also peaked in the Top 10 on the Recording Industry Association of New Zealand (RIANZ) charts.

This wasn’t the end of Jenny Morris’ success. She also won two ARIA awards for Best Female Artist in 1987 and 1988, and was nominated for the same accolade in 1992. Making Australia her permanent home, she became an Australian citizen in 1993 and was awarded the Order of Australia in 2010 for her work in music. Over almost three decades in Australia, Jenny Morris has worked tirelessly and produced some of the most memorable music on the Australian charts.

Don’t miss this experience to see Jenny Morris live in concert!

Jenny Morris performs The Reef Hotel Casino from 9.30am nightly 18 & 19 February 2011. This is a free show in Vertigo Bar & Cocktail Lounge.
