One of the most exciting things about being an adult is reminiscing about being a child. Now today’s adults have a chance to remember what it was like as yesterday’s children when legendary kid’s performer Peter Combe, sometimes referred to as the ‘Paul Kelly of children’s songwriters’ brings the adult version of his sell-out show to Brisbane in May. Wash Your Face in Orange Juice with Peter and his Newspaper Mama Band is a special 18+ only show at The Globe Theatre that takes the adults who grew up on his music on a trip down memory lane… in a party atmosphere!

Peter will be rocking through his greatest hits from Mr Clicketty Cane, Juicy Juicy Green Grass, Newspaper Mama, Spaghetti Bolognaise to Toffee Apple and Chopsticks. His songs are a sing-a-long extravaganza for all ages. As a performer who has carved his reputation out of making kids love music, performing to adults is a thrill for Peter. “It’s quite wonderful,” he says of the 18+ gigs. “Because after 20 years they still love the songs so much and sing them with such enthusiasm. It always gives me goosebumps to see young adults singing the songs as if they didn’t have a care in the world.”

Having his music appeal to young kids and also to adults - who remember his songs with such affection - is something that never ceases to amaze and humble Peter. “Watching a young mother, or sometimes a dad, who grew up on Tadpole Blues, Syntax Error, Edward J Fox, Jack & the Beanstalk, Happy As Larry … singing the songs through the eyes and ears of her four-year-old daughter or son at the matinee performance and going into a child-like state as an adult is a very touching thing to observe,” he says.

Peter is not only bringing his ‘adults-only’ show to Brisbane, but also kicking off the day with a matinee performance for kids and adults alike. Playing for adults gives this amazing children’s songwriter the chance to take the low key matinee performance to the next level, and really rock with the audience, who respond so well to the real ‘live’ aspect of the show. “The songs are played by a fantastic band – the Newspaper Mama band is a very classy outfit – at a real rock level,” he explains. “They’ll also surprise themselves at how well they remember ALL the songs, including the instrumental breaks.”

Peter Combe became a beloved name in Australian households with the release of his Toffee Apple album in 1987 –the title track was the first full-length music video to be ever made for kids. It firmly established Peter as the first kids’ ‘popstar’. His music was adult-friendly, and yet attractive to kids, and featured a Monty Python-style humour that had quirk and passion. Peter has won three ARIAs for Best Children’s Album, has been awarded seven gold and two platinum CDs and has notched up over a million sales – he is an icon of Australian children’s music. In 2009 he released his most recent CD, Kiddywinks, and continues to perform to sold-out audiences of kids and adults alike around the country. Peter has also recently released his greatest hits Peter Combe - The Complete DVD Collection.

Peter Combe performs his 18+ show at The Globe Theatre, 220 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley QLD from 7.30pm | Tickets are $23 pre-sale or $26 at the door – Oztix 1300 762 545 or www.oztix.com.au
