The legendary Phil Manning of renowned Australian group, Chain joins the line-up for 2011’s Cairns Blues Festival. Manning has been a leader in Australian blues music since the late 1960s as a member of Chain and later as a solo performer. He will bring this musical flair to the stage performing an acoustic set as one of the major acts of this year’s festival. Manning is one of the highest ranked blues guitarists in this country, and receives extremely complimentary reviews from music aficionados worldwide.

Chain, of which Manning was a founder, has been commonly thought to be the most influential Australian blues/rock band of its time. Chain were innovators when it came to the sound they created and were one of the only blues bands to see mainstream success with their #1 hit song Black ‘N’ Blue from their 1971 album Towards The Blues that went double gold. Chain continues to perform sold out shows throughout the country and they continue to remain as captivating in their delivery as they always have. Lead guitarist and supporting vocalist to Chain, Phil Manning remains one of the finest and most sought after musicians in the industry and his solo show promises to deliver remarkable results.

Manning’s expert manner on the acoustic guitar is phenomenal, with whole-hearted songwriting skills to match. On his most recent album, Checkmate Move, Manning writes about a range of topics covering areas such as love, politics, and all that happens in between. His music truly provides something for everyone and in a live performance; he manages to capture the unwavering attention of all involved. Phil Manning has been at the top of his game for over forty years. Constantly delivering outstanding performances, Manning still spends a great deal of his time touring as a solo artist as well as with the group that put his name in the spotlight, Chain.

Throughout his years performing solo Phil Manning has headlined a number of his own shows and very notably toured with a variety of pronounced artists such as, Muddy Waters, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGee, Albert Collins and, Freddie King, just to name a few. His exceptional talent as a musician and experience as a performer is something to be witnessed by any blues fanatic but also more predominantly, any lover of music in general.

Phil Manning is due to perform at 6.00pm on the Hill Top Stage of Fogarty Park on the Cairns Esplanade on May 7th.Pre-sold tickets are available through Ticketlink for $50 and any remaining will be available on the gate on the day for $60 for adults, $30 for those aged under 17 and, free of charge for those under the age of 13.

Cairns Blues Festival will be held on Saturday 7th May at Fogarty Park, The Esplanade, Cairns. Tickets are available from www.ticketlink.com.au from March 1.
