FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE

The Reef Hotel Casino is excited to announce this exciting and unique art experience – internationally acclaimed artist Dragon 76 will paint on-stage at Vertigo Cocktail Lounge & Bar for two days in May. Dragon 76 has held numerous successful exhibitions and live painting events around the world. The Reef Hotel Casino regularly supports local artists with in-house exhibitions, this is a coveted event indeed and an fabulous experience that no art-lover should miss. Not only that, but this event will also double as a fundraiser to raise money for those affected by the recent earthquakes in Japan.

Harking from Japan, Dragon 76 specialises in large scale live painting at galleries, music events and alternative spaces around the world. He studied both oil painting at Osaka College of Art and graffiti (outside of the education system). Born in Shiga and now based in Yokohama, his work frequently appears in all manner of publications, on record sleeves, clothes ranges and in advertising campaigns. His intricate and complex style is rooted in a combination of graffiti, manga and ukiyo-.e Landscapes and figures defined by black shadow, mimicking traditional block printing, are superimposed upon textured layers of vibrant colour.

Working fast, in classic graffiti ‘throw-up’ style, Dragon 76 paints with acrylic and marker pen, as well as using stenciling techniques. Watching his process allows a full appreciation of the level of skill and vision he has. This is a rare experience to see an acclaimed artist in action and get a behind-the-scenes view of the process of work that will be seen by audiences around the world. Some of Dragon 76’s client collaborations and commissions include Nelson Mandela's daughter - Zindzi's 50th birthday party (ZA), Cricket Australia, Soccer Stadium of Liverpool Carlsberg advertisement & promotion video (England), Bargrooves CD cover, GQ Magazine covers (Australia) and Miles Gallery (UK) Bob Marley Exhibition (IT) Steph Pocket's rap artist album cover & film clip U.S.A

Particularly inspired by themes of coexistence, Dragon 76 aims to spread a contemporary message of peace, harmony and revolution, exemplified by his participating in projects like painting murals onto the walls of the refugee and peace camps, as well as highlighting prejudice by depicting current affairs and protests. “I will be so glad if they can feel positive energy, which I felt from graffiti and minority culture through my painting,” Dragon 76 says.

In conjunction with the Australian Japan Society FNQ, 100 per cent of proceeds raised across the two days will be donated to the Japan Day of Hope fundraiser.

Dragon 76 will be painting live a 2-metre x 2-metre original piece on Vertigo stage from 4pm-8pm daily. Check it out www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eQD0qeu5sc&feature=relatedwww.youtube.com/watch?v=gRuuU7RdeX0 |  Dragon 76 Official Website http://www13.plala.or.jp/dragon-76/.
