FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Queensland locals The Flumes [Kayt Wallace on harp and vocals, Stephan Beattie on guitar and harmonies, Damien Jones on skins and, on the odd occasion Joel Wilson on percussion] will bring a psychedelic element to the line-up for the 2011 Kuranda Roots Festival.
The Flumes currently reside on the beautiful Sunshine Coast where they are frequent participants in local Queensland festivals such as, Woodford Folk Festival, Island Vibe, Winter Solstice, Yungaburra, Eumundi Live, Palm Creek and MusiCairns.
The soulful music of The Flumes spreads across a number of genres. They describe themselves as alternative folk fusion, however; their music predominantly sees elements of blues, funk, folk, jazz, reggae and rock which are very apparent when listening to these very talented musicians in a live setting or otherwise, on a recording. The earthiness of this group can be felt during any live performance where it is very easy to be swept away by their soothing yet soulful show. The Flumes are currently in production for the release of their second EP, Swell which follows on from their 2010 EP, Lunar Sea identifying the group’s eclectic and exceedingly impressive sound. Their second EP will no doubt win over fans and lovers of music alike as did the first which saw songs on Triple J’s Unearthed.
The band have supported a number of very notable musicians touring the country including The Violent Femmes, Stringmansassy and, Sarah McLeod. With a solid fan base and keen interest from music lovers The Flumes will no doubt bring certain element of richness to the Kuranda Roots Festival where punters will get a taste of what this extraordinary group has to offer. With such a diverse range of music and instruments teamed with rich vocals The Flumes create an amazing live sound that has to be seen to truly be appreciated.
