 Celebrating the release of his new album Modern Days, Markus Meier is heading off on a regional tour throughout QLD and NSW. No stranger to touring, Markus has spent the past couple of years acting as support for Lee Kernaghan’s tours and playing guitar in his band and opening for The McClymonts. Now, it’s this impressive singer songwriter’s turn to hit the road for his own headline shows.
Markus says audiences can expect a raw, high energy country rock show, with a few twists. “Its electric guitars, belting out the vocals and no hay bales in sight,” he says. The show is the live translation of not only his new album Modern Days, but also his previous releases. Recorded with acclaimed country producer (and former member of pop band ‘Sherbet’) Garth Porter, the album is a different approach than his previous material and focuses on a ‘rockier’ side of country. Markus says the album was recorded fast and the songs all came together in the studio. It also featured a dynamic band, including Pete Drummond (Dragon) and is a step forward musically for this two time Golden Guitar nominee.
“Music has always been a creative process and as an artist you must evolve with the music and with the times,” Markus says. “Modern Days is an example of ‘country' moving into the future and becoming 'new country' and 'country rock'. Our aim is to engage a new, youthful audience, perhaps even people who wouldn't normally listen to country music. This album is more general than my previous two and hopefully will win over some new fans and get them interested in new country music.”
 While Markus admits being on the road consistently is tough, being away from home and his family, he has also loved the opportunity to play to audiences around Australia. “Touring with Lee Kernaghan for the last 18 months has been the best any country artist could hope for,” he says. “Opening Lee's shows, warming the crowds up and talking to the fans you can't help but be infected by the raw energy and if that's not enough to inspire you, nothing will.”
Markus has earned himself a whole new fan base touring with Lee, and had the opportunity to share his music with thousands. He’ll kick off his Modern Days tour this month with two shows at Gympie Muster before embarking on a regional run through New South Wales. “I’m looking forward to getting out there with my own band and playing the music that I love to people that have never heard of me, and hopefully winning them over,” he says.
