 Australian rock legends Choirboys are gearing up to rock Aussie audiences as they head off on tour with Def Leppard this month. Def Leppard returns to Australia with American rock band Heart, who will be touring the country for the first time, for a string of dates in October.
With more than 65 million albums sold worldwide, Def Leppard - Joe Elliott (vocals), Phil Collen (guitar), Rick "Sav" Savage (bass), Vivian Campbell (guitar) and Rick Allen (drums) - continue to be one of the most important forces in rock music. Likewise, Choirboys are a name that is synonymous with Australian rock, and the perfect addition to this impressive rock tour.
Choirboys frontman Mark Gable, who also has an impressive rock solo career, says he hopes audiences who find song favourites among Def Leppard and Heart will also enjoy a rockin’ set by Choirboys. “Mainly from the standpoint that all the bands were big in the 80s,” he says. “Choirboys will differ in that we were always a pub rock band and a hard one at that. I think we will be more down to earth [musically], even raw if you will…All three bands are rock bands, so how can you go wrong. It will be loud, that’s for sure!”
Choirboys are well known for their hits Run to Paradise and Never Gonna Die to name a few. Their songs are still played regularly on rock radio stations and they’ve just wrapped up a sell-out Australian tour for their 30th Anniversary. And the year hasn’t wrapped up yet for the Choirboys, with more interesting things on the cards for the last few months of 2011. “Choirboys plans for 2011 could go any where at this point,” Mark says. “There is talk of another album, or even a theatre show. So, who knows?!”
Over the course of their career, Def Leppard has produced a series of classic groundbreaking albums (including Pyromania and Hysteria) that set the bar for generations of music fans and artists alike. The group’s spectacular live shows, filled with powerful rock anthems, continue to sell out venues worldwide. Their epic live show and huge arsenal of hits have become synonymous with their name, leading Def Leppard to be heralded as an institution in both the music and touring industry. Heart’s debut album Dreamboat Annie sailed into the Australian Top 10 in 1976. Heart showed the world that women can rock! Not only did the Wilson sisters (Ann and younger sister Nancy) lead the band, they wrote the songs and played the instruments too, making them the first women in rock to do so. Some of Heart’s biggest hits include Magic Man, All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You, These Dreams, Barracuda and they have even recorded a cover of John Farnham’s You’re The Voice. Throughout their 35 year career, Heart has sold more than 30 million records, had 22 Top 40 hits, sold out arenas worldwide and had a profound influence on rock music. In 2010 they returned to the Top 10 again with the critically acclaimed album Red Velvet Car.
