FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
As one of Australia’s most beloved rock bands from the 1990s, Chocolate Starfish have an envious back catalogue and a rockin’ live show that is guaranteed to bring audiences to their feet. Now the band reunites for two special nights in Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge at The Reef Hotel Casino in October and punters are definitely in for a treat as the group take to the stage.
Fronted by enigmatic singer Adam Thompson, Chocolate Starfish are widely reputed as one of the best live bands on the scene. Their energetic shows are all about the music and they don’t apologize for rockin’ hard. The band arrived smack bang in the middle of the grunge scene of the 1990s and refused to fit the mould. They had their own sound and their own direction; and this individualistic attitude earned them respect far and wide, something they’ve kept alive across the past two decades.
Across their career, Chocolate Starfish had six top 40 singles and two top 10 albums on the Australian charts, gold and platinum record sales and an ARIA for ‘Most Popular Album’. Their debut album entered the charts at #2 and the band hit the road, touring incessantly, resulting in the phrase ‘Australia’s hardest working band’ being coined about their dedication to touring.
Chocolate Starfish were recognisable from Adam Thompson’s outrageous appearance and persona, and their tight rockin’ songs. The band was made up of some of Victoria’s best musicians and it was evident with their live shows. There was a chemistry in the songwriting, and even when they recorded covers, Chocolate Starfish put a slant all of their own on the material. Their singles Four Letter Word, Mountain and You’re So Vain are still played on radio regularly today ensuring that Chocolate Starfish has never left the memories of Aussie rock fans.
While Adam Thompson is no stranger to Far North Queensland, having previously brought his solo show to The Reef Hotel Casino (even bringing in the New Year once), it’s been years since Chocolate Starfish toured together. They disbanded in 1998, leaving a gaping hole in the music scene and a swag of fans eager to see them again. Reuniting for a string of dates in 2011, Chocolate Starfish will be performing all their greatest hits, and showcasing some new, previously unreleased material. This is a rare opportunity to see one of the greatest Australian bands of the 1990s live, loud and rockin’ on the Vertigo stage.
Port Douglas local singer songwriter Kim Hurley will open for the band on Friday 28 October from 8.30pm. Women in Docs member and established solo performer Roz Pappalardo will kick off the show at 8.30pm on Saturday 29 October. The live music continues nightly until 2am.
