 After making the final three in television reality program X-Factor, Sunshine Coast-based singer Andrew Lawson needs no introduction to music lovers. His impressive performance on the show, coupled with his determination to stay firm to his own style, won hearts around the nation. Now Andrew is ready to launch his limited release debut CD Factor This and show audiences why he’s destined to have a long career in the music industry.
Launching Factor This in Noosa this month, Andrew will also be debuting the Andrew Lawson band, and taking audiences through his new material, as well as favourites that earned him acclaim on X-Factor. He says fans can expect to see a ‘new and improved’ performer. “I’ve been working super hard over the past year preparing myself for a performance like this,” he says. “So I will be in top form [laughs].”
Debuting the album in Noosa was an easy decision. Andrew has called the Sunshine Coast home for the past five years and shares a kinship with the community. “It was really important for me to debut in Noosa, because of all of the support I have received from locals,” he says. “I felt like I needed to give something back to everyone who has been there for me.”
For a fledgling performer, 2012 has been a massive year. Andrew has been out on the road all year with Leo Sayer, performing as his special guests, and astounding audiences every night. He also toured throughout October with Taylor Dayne as the special guest on her Australia tour, which saw Andrew perform 17 shows in 21 days. This would be an incredible feat for any performer, but this talented vocalist has taken it all in his stride. That’s no surprising though, considering the fact that singing is the first thing Andrew does when he wakes up, and the last thing he does before going to sleep.
This is one performer who is dedicated to his music career, and it shows. Impatient to get out and tread the boards, Andrew deferred his Queensland Conservatorium of Music degree to audition for X-Factor. It was obviously the right decision, and through the tough competition Andrew kept winning hearts and finished third in the tightly contested final.
Music has always been in Andrew’s blood. He started playing guitar at the age of seven, and not only sings beautifully, but also writes his own material. He grew up on a solid diet of music, courtesy of his father, who introduced him to the music of the likes of Elvis, Sinatra and Dean Martin.
Andrew can’t wait to get out on the stage at his Noosa CD launch. He is quick to acknowledge that he was only able to go into the studio to record the songs and release them because of the great support he had received from Australian music lovers. “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has kept an eye out and supported me over the past 18-months,” he says. “I really wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for all of you. And for that, I say thanks.”
