 The exciting Melinda Does Doris show at the Tamworth Country Music Festival is seeking to cast a couple of local dogs to join the star of the show, Melinda Schneider, on stage for the Thursday evening performance at Tamworth Town Hall.
Melinda is inviting dogs of all breeds to an open audition on Monday 23rd January at 11am in the theatre at the Tamworth Town Hall. Dogs will be tested for suitability – no previous stage experience necessary; however an ability to walk on stage, jump on a chaise lounge and be sung to is essential. The dogs must be obedient, professional, take direction well and be able to smile at the audience!
This canine casting call is necessary as Melinda, who has previously used her own dogs but, on this occasion, has asked for involvement by Tamworth dogs available as it’s too difficult to bring her own beautiful dogs with her to the festival.
Melinda says “my two gorgeous doggies are 13 year old little sisters called Rosie and Daisy who I’ve had since they were puppies. I call them ‘the girls’. They have very different personalities – Daisy is highly strung, wiry & a great jumper, whereas Rosie is a typical Labrador and loves her food. Because of their age, I can’t bring them with me for the week of the festival.”
Melinda herself will be choosing the lucky dogs who will accompany her on stage. This is a non-equity call and all dogs must be leashed and accompanied by their owners to be presented to Melinda at 11am on Monday 23rd January.
Shamelessly, doggie treats will be offered as incentives to perform at these auditions.

Melinda’s love affair with Doris began when, in childhood, Melinda laid eyes on Calamity Jane, Doris Day’s 1953 film tour de force and was smitten by all she saw.
“She was such a huge talent” she enthuses now, “a triple threat as they say – she could sing, dance and act. I thought then she was the best of everything a woman can be and when I grew up I wanted to be just like her.
This nostalgic celebration includes such timeless hits as “Sentimental Journey”, “Que Sera, Sera”, “Everybody Loves a Lover”, “Secret Love” and a whole slew of hits from “Calamity Jane”, “Love Me or Leave Me” and “The Pajama Game”.
We watched Melinda dazzle with her dexterity on television’s Dancing With the Stars last year and she will once again be showing the huge range of her talent, ably supported by a fabulous eight piece big band in Melinda Does Doris.
