FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Brisbane musician Big Strong Brute will launch his second full-length album, Avalanche Of Truth, in March with an east coast tour.
Big Strong Brute is the alter ego of 24-year-old Brisbane musician Paul Donoughue. Over the past five years he has shared stages in Australia, New York and Berlin with artists including Jens Lekman, Mount Eerie, Tiny Vipers, I Heart Hiroshima, Ben Salter and Jenny Hval, enthralling audiences with his lo-fi folk and pop-styled music. In October 2010, he released his first EP, We Can Sleep Under Trees In The Morning, which earned him a solid reputation and he returns in 2012 with the release of his second long player Avalanche of Truth.
Avalanche of Truth is a solid offering from this talented musician, featuring nine songs of complex, delicate folk-pop. It explores a theme of loss in two forms: the end of a relationship, and destruction of a home. Half of the songs on the record took inspiration from last year’s natural disasters in Queensland. The record, produced by Stephen Bartlett (Skinny Jean) at the Docking Station in Moorooka, Queensland, will be released jointly through Brisbane labels Lofly (Re:enactment, Nova Scotia, Mr. Maps) and El Nino El Nino (McKisko, Tom Cooney) on March 18.
Praise for We Can Sleep Under Trees In The Morning:
``...One of the best releases I heard from a young songwriter anywhere in the world in 2010. By the time you reach the final, elegiac title tune, you realise these songs will be haunting you for some time yet. Fans of quality writers like Elliott Smith and bands like The National and Grizzly Bear, don't miss this.''
-Noel Mengel, The Courier-Mail
``This is music for deep thought, for longing and small hours. Honest, self-doubting and deceptively complex, Big Strong Brute's take on guitar pop - slowed down, spaced out and filled with beautiful melodic embellishments - is nothing short of compelling.''
- Andrew McMillen, Mess and Noise
``Donoughue takes the same simple song structures and basic open guitar chords that thousands of people have used to create a million songs, and yet manages to create songs that are not only memorable, but somehow unique and individual. Paul Donoughue is a son of a bitch.''
- Cam Smith, Before Hollywood
