Ladies And Gentlemen… Introducing Junior Bowles…
Bringing His Soul-Fuelled Blues
To Cairns Blues Festival In 2012
4th Annual Cairns Blues Festival – Saturday 12th May 2012
“Ladies and Gentleman, my name is Junior Bowles”, is a phrase that has become synonymous with blues fans and festival goers Australia wide and this year, Junior will be bringing his eclectic, soul fuelled, 1920’s blues sound to the 4th Annual Cairns Blues Festival.
Junior Bowles, who will be wrapping up his Take No Shortcuts tour with his performance at the festival, has spent the last 12 months touring the country in his bright green bus playing up to five shows a week. This tour has been in support of Bowles debut album The Time Will Come, which received intense attention due to the heartfelt lyrics of love, life, desire, hard times and rough roads. Bowles, who was inspired by the pre-war 1920’s blues sound, brings the same raw and honest approach to his own music and people are responding with solid praise.
Until The Siren Sounds, a track from his vinyl-only release has been awarded a WAMi for Most Outstanding Regional Song of 2011 and is getting national airplay through AMRAPS AIRIT program. He has also become a crowd favourite at many folk and blues festivals around the country. His standout performances at the 2010 Bridgetown Blues Festival, 2011 Nannup Music Festival and Darwin Blues 2011 have meant this impressive bluesman’s reputation is spreading far and wide, and the invites to perform on festival stages everywhere continue to roll in.
Junior has created his own style and sound of modern blues with an old fashioned attitude. This is heightened by the resonance of his 1910 Stella Banjo, handed down to him by his grandfather and restored by his own hands. It is this passion that brings a unique connection between Bowles and his audiences. If you can imagine some eclectic middle ground between a 1920’s blues rambler and one of this generations most talented musicians you can almost grasp the energy and intensity that Junior Bowles brings to his performances.
