FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
After the success of the first LAKESIDE TWILIGHTS concert at Lake Wendouree in Ballarat in December 2012, promoter Regional Touring is excited to announce the second gig in the concert series, scheduled for Saturday 23rd February 2013. The second concert boasts another impressive line-up featuring the cream of the Australian music industry, Ross Wilson, Brian Cadd, Glenn Shorrock and Dragon.
The LAKESIDE TWILIGHTS concept is the brain child of promoter Duane McDonald, who is responsible for the annual Red Hot Summer Tour which travels the East Coast every summer. Duane says the concert series will continue in Ballarat, with the view to expand to other areas in regional Victoria. “The first lakeside concert – which featured Daryl Braithwaite, James Reyne and Vika & Linda – was a huge success,” he says. “The lakeside was packed and the weather gave us a great day. It was the perfect event for a summer afternoon. The Lakeside Twilight series provide us with the perfect opportunity to showcase some of the country’s finest entertainers in a magnificent setting. I’m sure the second concert in the series will be just as special as the first.” The February 2013 line-up (Ross Wilson, Brian Cadd, Glenn Shorrock and Dragon) once again brings together some of Australia’s most talented and acclaimed musicians. There are few opportunities to see icons such as these artists on the same bill, so for music lovers this will certainly be a concert to remember.
Celebrating their 40th anniversary, Dragon will bring a swag of hits to the Lakeside Twilights stage. The band has a long history with Aussie music fans. Moving from New Zealand to Australia in the 1970s, the Kiwi-come-Aussie band made an indelible mark and their music captured the hearts of a generation. Songs like April Sun in Cuba, Are You Old Enough and Rain became ingrained into the Australian psyche and Dragon, featuring Todd Hunter and his late brother Marc, were soon adopted by Australia as their own. After the untimely death of Marc Hunter, it was evident that fans were still desperate for more Dragon music. Established solo artist Mark Williams, who music lovers will remember from his hit No Mercy, joined the band as frontman and the new line-up has been touring the country ever since, garnering themselves a whole new generation of fans.
Glenn Shorrock has an enviable reputation. With more than four decades in the music industry, he was part of legendary bands such as the Twilights, Axiom and Little River Band. Harking from the United Kingdom, Shorrock moved to Australia with his family when he was 10. He is best recognised for his remarkable voice. His hits include the Axiom classic Little Ray of Sunshine – with Brain Cadd – and the string of charting successes with Little River Band Help Is On Its Way, Home On Monday and Cool Change to name a few. Throughout his career he also starred in theatre productions such as Evita and The Rocky Horror Show. Shorrock is recognised as one of the greats of the Australian music industry and has been inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, twice.
Music fans will have a chance to see one of Australian music’s legends as Brian Caddjoins the February concert line-up. Cadd is easily considered one of the key figures in the history of Aussie music and for good reason. In the 1960s and early 1970s he was one of the most prominent musicians on the local scene. As a member of bands like The Groop and Axiom – with Glenn Shorrock – Cadd has a plethora of songwriting credits behind him, in fact, he co-wrote all of the original material penned by Axiom and has gone on to write and record an impressive back catalogue of songs, including Don’t You Know Its Magic, a version of which was recorded by John Farnham. Other artists who have covered his songs include the Pointer Sisters, Joe Cocker, Gene Pitney and Bonnie Tyler. Cadd didn’t only earn his dues as a musician in the industry, he also worked behind the scenes and has produced and contributed to albums and singles for the likes of Dutch Tilders, The Strangers and Daryl Somers to name a few. Cadd has also had an illustrious career as a solo artist, with hits such as Ginger Man. He lived in the US for many years but has now returned to Australia.
Ross Wilson really needs no introduction to music lovers. As the force behind bands such as Mondo Rock and Daddy Cool, he has been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame. Known as ‘Mr Eagle Rock’, the Daddy Cool classic Eagle Rock is one of the biggest rock hits to come out of Australia. Other songs from the band such as Come Back Again are crowd favourites. Add to this popular songs from Mondo Rock such as Come Said The Boy, State of the Heart and Cool World, and it’s no surprise that Wilson is one of Australia’s most enduring and beloved performers. Wilson has also had success as a solo artist and a prolific career as a songwriter, penning tracks that have been covered by the likes of Jimmy Barnes, DEF-FX, Custard, Troy Cassar-Daley, Christine Anu and Lee Kernaghan to name a few. Fans will recognise his songwriting in the John Farnham hit A Touch of Paradise. Any concert with Ross Wilson on the bill promises to be something spectacular.
