FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
One of Australia’s finest rock acts CHOIRBOYS are hitting the road again in 2013 to bring their special brand of rock to audiences around Australia. 2012 was a massive year for the band as they celebrated their 30th anniversary travelling the breadth of the country performing their classic hits to audiences of all ages. If you love rock music then this is the perfect way to celebrate our pub rock heritage with one of the country’s greatest live acts.
30 years ago, CHOIRBOYS started at founding member Mark Gable’s home in Church Point on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. Armed with little four-track studio setup in the bedsit the boys would come around to do the demos that would lead CHOIRBOYS to their first recording deal with the ‘Alberts’ label. It was the beginning of something that every kid dreams about, starting a rock 'n' roll band with a bunch of friends and not knowing what would happen next. It was a great time to start a band and it was a great time to be young. It was a year of not caring about the future and a great year of creativity, it was a year CHOIRBOYS started their journey that would lead them into the hearts of the Australian public and the pages of Australian music history.
Fast Forward 30 Years…
CHOIRBOYS are now an essential part of our Australian culture having penned one of this country’s unofficial anthems, Run To Paradise. They epitomise the essence of the Australian pub culture scene and have secured their place in Australian music history and are viewed by many as the quintessential Australian rock band.
With the tag of being an ‘Iconic Australian Heritage Band’ the terms perennial, exciting, exuberant and thoroughly entertaining are still used to describe what CHOIRBOYS are all about. It is a fact that CHOIRBOYS have been entertaining rock fans for 30 years, they have sold multi-platinum albums and have survived when so many others have fallen. CHOIRBOYS have achieved legendary status in Australia and not just because of their longevity; it’s because they deliver a great live show time and time again.
So why stay around so long? “Because we bloody love it,” says singer Mark Gable. “CHOIRBOYS is exactly the kind of band that I always wanted to be in as a kid, so why not keep on doing it till you die? It is so much fun being in this band.”
In September 2010 the original line-up reunited. Band members Mark Gable, Ian Hulmes, Brett Williams and Lindsay Tebbutt toured Nationally along with the release of the 30th Anniversary album Never Gonna Die: The Very Best of Choirboys released through Warner Music Australia.
The last few years have been extremely exciting, with the band concentrating on major corporate events in Australia and overseas. In 2008 Mark became the host of the Vega Sunday Session aired on Vega 95.3FM and currently hosts his own show The Awesome Eighties every day on radio 2GO on the Central Coast of NSW. Mark also became an ambassador for ‘Beyond Blue’ The Depression Initiative.
With their music embedded in Australian culture, with hits such as Run To Paradise, Boys Will Be Boys, Struggle Town and Never Gonna Die, CHOIRBOYS are a part of Australian history. CHOIRBOYS and their music have found their way into our hearts, ears and minds and will be a part of our lives for a long, long time to come. Don’t miss these great shows in 2013 as the CHOIRBOYS rock around Australia!
