FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Following on from the success of her second full-length album in 2012, Melbourne-based dance vocalist eM is back with her follow-up release, the highly anticipated Encore EP. For an Australian-based performer, Mz eM has been earning considerable acclaim from the States and has requests from DJs around to world to remix her tracks. Some of these remixes have racked up massive views and downloads from virtual music stores, catapulting this talented musician into the big league.
eM released her first full –length album Darker Harder in 2010 and the feature track A Miracle sat solidly at the No. 1 position for all genres on www.hardcoremix.com for nine months. One of her first Beatport collaborations (Remember Me with Jerome Zambino) recently entered the Top 100 – four years after its original release. eM’s DJ mix of Encore on her own podcast hit into the Top 100 (in Progressive) within days of its online release.
With a steadily growing following for her music, which in the past has traversed through the different dance genres, eM has stepped it up another notch with Encore. The production is tight, an element eM has been consistently working on. It’s been a labour of love, but the finished product is three tracks that are fairly progressive, with lots of layers.
eM admits she feels that this is what makes her sound unique. “I spent a lot of time listening to European progressive producers for inspiration,” she says. “I like to write about other life experiences or topics other than love songs all the time, so the three tracks here are all different. I Miss U is a heart-break song, In Our Thoughts is anti-fighting / war track and Indica is about addiction. The songs have more depth in them and already In Our Thoughts is getting lots of plays on my music profiles.”
The first single off the EP, In Our Thoughts, is exactly as the name suggests, thought-provoking and one of those tracks which gives you more and more each listen. The video clip, which features war footage in the background, helps expands the elements of the song. “In Our Thoughts is the strength of the EP and I feel the lyrics have a strong message, particularly with the increase in shooting and violence happening in the world,” eM says. “We do need to get back to looking after each other. The video clip reflects this and it is the kind of music video you watch once, then twice and on the third time you’ll realise the depth to the editing. We shot the footage in 38 degree heat, which was crazy, but it has turned out amazing.”
eM says the track purposely features a four-part harmony in the chorus, which took quite a while to get right. “It’s probably the most vocal track I’ve produced in a while,” she admits. The other songs were also a bit of a departure from eM’s previous material, showing a real maturity in her music and production. “With Indica I only added one of the vocals about two days before mastering, but as a last minute change it really lifted the track to a new level. I Miss U has been a project for over a decade. I released a remix on my debut EP Experience and until now, I hadn’t been able to get the right feel for the original.”
With the EP only just hitting the digital airwaves, eM is already in negotiations to work on the remixes. These will not only include remixes from eM herself, but also from some impressive overseas producers who have been following eM’s work since its inception.
Encore is out now and available for download from iTunes, Beatport. Juno, Trackitdown and all major online stores.
