FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE

Marie WilsonContinuing what is proving to be a big return to the live music scene, Aussie singer-songwriter and reputed ‘rock chick’ Marie Wilson is lining up to shake the walls of The Reef Hotel Casino when she hits the stage in Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge on Friday 31 May and Saturday 1 June. Blessed with a powerful voice and the driving ability to shred her electric guitar without mercy, Marie Wilson is one of those special strong and performers.

Marie first barnstormed into the Aussie music world in 1998 when she released her debut single, the muscular and instantly memorable Next Time. The song proved an immediate success, being one of the most played tracks on radio for the year and blitzing the charts. Its success scored Marie two ARIA nominations and led to her being chosen as Best New Australian Artist at the 1998 Radio Industry Awards. Marie’s talents did not go unnoticed by other musicians around the world. She soon found herself invited to co-write songs with some industry heavyweights, including Aerosmith’s Marc Hudson, Bryan Adams and Australian country darling, Beccy Cole.

Between her debut and 2005, Marie wrote, recorded and released three albums – Real Life, Studio Sessions and Heartbreak – all of which were warmly greeted by fans and critics alike. A hiatus followed as she put aside her guitar. “I was throwing my energy into the business,” she says. “And there didn’t seem to be any space for me to be creative. This also led to moments of self-doubt where I questioned whether I was going to be able to write again.”

All that changed one day when she wrote a song called Extraordinary and from that moment on she knew her mojo, and her groove, were back. Fired with new enthusiasm, Marie hit the studio and the stage with equal enthusiasm. She is now well on the way to completing her fourth album, and has been hitting halls, pubs and festival stages and selling out shows. Her return to live performance has been welcomed by her existing legion of supporters and has already spurred the creation of a whole new tribe of fans.

Marie Wilson“Looking back, my early songs had an innocence, or a naivety, about them, and this certainly reflects where I was in my life at the time,” says Marie. “And during the time I wasn’t writing, I realise now that I was gaining life experience, learning lessons I probably never would have known had I not had that break. I think this experience adds more depth and dimension to my songs.”

Marie’s voice is still her strongest instrument. This, coupled with her world class songwriting and hard hitting acoustic guitar playing, has fast cemented her reputation as an enduring talent. Her live shows are full of grit and true music talent. Don’t miss Marie Wilson as she gets ready to rock The Reef Hotel Casino for two special nights.

Marie Wilson performs at Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge in The Reef Hotel Casino on Friday 31st May & Saturday 1st June from 8pm nightly.
