FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Music lovers in southern Queensland are in for a special treat this June as four impressive local bands join forces to showcase what makes the Queensland music scene one of the most vibrant in the country. QMusic - Queensland’s peak music development body, A-Venue and Arts Queensland are proud to announce the Round & Round, Up & Down Tour.
“We all know how difficult it is for young bands to get a gig in their local town, let alone towns close by, so we are delighted with Arts Queensland’s support to provide this opportunity to tour live original music into regional communities” says QMusic program manager Martine Cotton
The tour is a major two-phase operation, with a swag of exciting emerging talents signed up to blitz venues in the north and south of the State. The line-up includes the finest young talents in the field of hiphop, alternative rock, folk and fuzzed-up electro – guaranteeing that Round & Round, Up & Down Tour has something to suit everyone’s taste.
It’s long been known that Queensland, from south to north, east to west, is a hot bed of creativity, and QMusic’s brief is to bring together a rich amalgam of keen young bands and package them up in a fun-filled raucous roadshow.
The southern leg of the tour, which runs from June 19 to 23, will see a rich collection of diverse sounds provided by Caboolture’s hardcore technists Gentlemen, the Gold Coast’s pop-punk wunderkinder Double Lined Minority, alt-rockers Black as Blue from Southern Downs, and pop trio The Roshambos from the Sunshine Coast. All up, Round & Round, Up & Down Tour is a fabulous opportunity for punters in the Gold Coast, Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and everywhere in between to experience some of the most innovative, enthralling and – let’s face it – damn good music being made in Queensland today. The next time some of these guys roll around the tickets will be much harder to get – and much more expensive.
Tour organisers QMusic is the first point of contact and interface for emerging artists and industry workers within the wider music industry. The organisation, which began in 1994, is an active voice for the Queensland music industry on a national and international level. QMusic is a member of AMIN (Australian Music Industry Network) which is a network of state based music organisations that provides a national voice for policy development and advocacy issues for the music industry. Signature events such as BIGSOUND and the Queensland Music Awards promote networking and collaboration that contributes to building the profile of the Queensland music industry.
Bands involved in the southern leg of Round and Round, Up and Down Tour are:-
|Black As Blue
Formed in Tatooine in 2007, Black As Blue are now based in Brisbane and are making waves on the Australian alt-rock circuit. The band began while its four members were still in high school. The release of two well-received independent EPs has won the band a legion of fans and earned Black As Blue spots on some thumpingly good bills at pubs and festivals around Queensland.
|Double Lined Minority
Gold Coast four-piece Double Lined Minority pump out instantly memorable songs which combine pop sensibilities with pop attitude. The band’s 2011 debut album, With Finger Crossed, was an instant independent success which led in short order to a spot at Big Day Out 2012, several other festival berths, a tour of the Philippines, and, this year, the coveted support spot with Smashmouth. The band plans to release its long-awaited second album later this year.
Brisbane based trio Gentlemen produce a remarkable and challenging mixture of electronic voices suffused with thrash sensibilities. Uptempo and uncompromising, the band’s music is influenced by take-no-prisoners electro artists such as Aphex Twin, The Locust and The Rapture.
Stylish alt-pop trio The Roshambos have so far released two very well received independent EPs – Bally Hoo and Noises From Hootchy Kootchy – which have won them a huge following of people who appreciate well-crafted, rambunctious music. The band has recently wrapped up a successful tour of Melbourne, and will soon be heading into the studio to record their debut full length album.
