FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE

Groundation

Roots reggae favourites, GROUNDATION (US/Jamaica) are returning to Australia in 2014 for a string of special shows. Following on the heels of their headline performance at New Zealand’s Ragamuffin Festival on 1 Feb 2014, which will see the band share the bill with the likes of Damian Marley, Shaggy and Morgan Heritage, California’s GROUNDATION are gearing up to showcase their unique sound with Australian fans. It’s been two years since GROUNDATION were last on Antipodean shores where they wowed audiences and critics alike at WOMADelaide and WOMAD NZ, and their 2010 Australian tour saw the band play to packed houses at every venue. The return of this world famous eight-piece spiritual outfit promises to satisfy all music lovers reggae cravings, with a support from pro surfer Tom Frager (France).

Band leader Harrison Stafford says after the previous two incredible Australian tours, GROUNDATION can’t wait to return again in 2014. “We always gain so much both personally and musically by visiting and sharing with different people and cultures,” he says. “This is what drives us to return to Australia and also to share that collective worldwide energy that we have picked up along all of our travels since our last visit to Oz. GROUNDATION’s music represents the people so it makes sense that we need to travel and be there with the people to forward the message of unification.”

Saying that GROUNDATION is a reggae band is merely scratching the surface; the band’s sound is an organic fusion of classic roots reggae, heavy funk/jazz, and transcendental dub. Their live shows are synonymous with high-energy positive communal vibrations, combining the message and determination of the best reggae music has to offer with perpetually fresh jazz-inspired improvisation. Bursting forth from their underground status, GROUNDATION has taken the music world by storm. Over the last few years they have performed for hundreds of thousands of fans across the globe, headlining shows in 38 countries on six continents, and appearing at some of the world’s largest and most prestigious music festivals, including Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, Germany’s Summerjam and Italy’s Rototom Sunsplash.

From the band’s debut release in 1999, they’ve been carving their own route and earning themselves a stellar following among music lovers and their contemporaries. Since their foray into the professional music spectrum over a decade ago, GROUNDATION has shared the stage with legendary acts such as Don Carlos and Pablo Moses, and has recorded with artists such as Apple Gabriel, Don Carlos, The Congos and Marcia Higgs. With an ever-growing international following and the critically acclaimed release of their most recent album Building An Ark in 2012, GROUNDATION has cemented its reputation as an international ambassador of American music, clocking tens of millions YouTube hits in the process. Whether on their masterfully self-produced studio albums or in their unforgettable live performances, GROUNDATION’s sound is without category, yet deeply familiar, offering listeners everywhere an access point for musical connection.

Harrison says music fans attending the band’s string of shows in Australia will be treated to an authentic GROUNDATION performance. “Expect the unexpected with a live GROUNDATION performance – collective fusion-jazz improvisation within the deep infectious grooves of one-drop roots reggae music,” he says. “We’ll be playing music from our seven studio releases, as well as new material for the first time, all focused on bringing people together to celebrate life and a recommitment to equality and love for all.”

The name GROUNDATION alludes to the decades-old communal Rastafarian ceremony of ‘grounation’, a ritual based on the meditative powers of music. But GROUNDATION is an idea for today, uniting audiences and using the universal vibration of music to help bring about a positive social evolution. Don’t miss GROUNDATION as they return to Australia in 2014, proudly presented by M’A Prod.
