Classic Aussie band 1927 are gearing up for another return to Vertigo Cocktail Bar and Lounge at The Reef Hotel Casino for two massive nights in May. The band’s previous appearances in Far North Queensland have resulted in jam-packed houses and rave reviews, and their return shows are guaranteed to delight again. As an iconic name on the Aussie music scene, 1927 have been blowing away fans and newcomers with their instantly memorable hits from the late 80s and early 90s on their recent national tours. They’re also all fired up to showcase brilliant new material contained in their most recent and long-awaited fourth album, Generation-i.

1927 burst onto the Australian rock scene in 1988 with their instant classic debut album, …ish. The album quickly went multi-platinum and remains one of the highest-selling records in history. The album spawned a string of hits, including That’s When I Think Of You, If I Could, Compulsory Hero and You’ll Never Know – all of which remain fixtures on the radio waves, two decades later! The songs from …ish garnered 1927 a swag of awards and nominations, and guaranteed that the follow-up album, The Other Side (1990) would pump straight into the upper reaches of the Aussie charts.

The band went on extended hiatus in the mid-nineties, until lead singer Eric Weiderman relaunched it 2009 – finding instant success and acclaim. The new-look 1927 finds him joined by drummer Damian Cooper, bassist Simon Shapiro, and Craig Laird on lead guitar. For Weiderman the reformation was yet another chapter in an extraordinary career which began when he was picked to front the band after appearing on the Hey Hey It’s Saturday ‘Red Faces’ segment.

The band quickly found themselves back in the hurly-burly of the Australian touring circuit, hitting the road with UK New Romantic legends Simple Minds, Swedish pop darlings Roxette and US indie heroes The Rembrandts. Twenty years after …ish was first released, 1927 proved they had lost nothing of their energy, spark and creativity. And now, with Generation-i, 1927 are heading back to the Vertigo to do what they do best – rock the room!
