FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
From Malaysia to Macao, The U2 Show Melbourne are regarded as one of the best U2 tribute acts in the Southern Hemisphere. The four-piece band – who not only talk the talk and walk the walk, but also sing the songs – are bringing their high intensity celebration of Ireland’s greatest rock stars to Vertigo at The Reef Hotel Casino for one special night in October. It’s been two years since this enigmatic show took to the Vertigo stage and if their last shows are anything to go by, this night is going to be huge!
The U2 Show Melbourne is a two-hour riot of melody, rhythm, costumes and lights, as the band traverse the hit-studded history of Bono and the lads. The concert covers U2’s early work from their debut album Boy (1980), right through to songs from the most recent album. The Sweetest Thing, Lemon, New Year’s Day, One, I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, With or Without You – if U2 had a hit with it, The U2 Show Melbourne will play it!
The U2 Show Melbourne are led by a vocalist whose talent and charisma rivals Bono himself. Michael Cavallaro possesses an extraordinary voice and undeniable stage presence. Dressed in any of the several Bono-esque costumes he wears during the show, eyes masked by Emporio Armani sunglasses, and with a strut that bows to no man, he fully embodies the look, sound and spirit of the Irish rock icon. Michael is backed by the stunning talents of guitarist Peter Kalamaras (The Edge), bassist David Attard (Adam Clayton) and drummer Craig Jupp (Larry Mullen Jnr). Taken together, the look, sound and energy of The U2 Show Melbourne creates the unmistakable magic of U2.
The U2 Show Melbourne traces the extraordinary growth and evolution of the Irish superstars. The band first formed in 1976 when all four members met at the Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin. The first little while was spent learning to play instruments, but within four years the band had signed a deal with Island Records and was set to release Boy. International fame and fortune followed rapidly, with the band quickly outgrowing its initial than ‘alternative’ tag and moving from playing small bars to massive stadiums.
So far, U2 have clocked up in excess of 150 million of album sales. Along the way they have won no fewer than 22 Grammy Awards – more than any other band in history. In 2005 they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Achtung Baby, the album, was released in 1991, and formed the basis for the band’s barn-storming Zooropa world tour. It also, in fullness of time, provided the inspiration for Michael Cavallaro and his fellow musicians to put together The U2 Show Melbourne. The idea turned out to be a remarkably good one. As well as finding very enthusiastic crowds in big rooms across Australia, The U2 Show Melbourne has also been booked to play major functions and festivals in places such as Macao and Singapore.
And now they’re returning to Cairns for one special night. The U2 Show Melbourne will be one of the biggest acts to shake the stage of Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge at The Reef Hotel Casino this year.
Achtung Baby! - The U2 Show Melbourne perform from 9pm on Friday 10th October 2014. Local favourites BIG NOISE will wrap-up the entertainment on the night. *** This is a free show in Vertigo
