FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Friday 23rd January 2015 | 10am | Capitol Theatre, Tamworth NSW – Tamworth Country Music Festival
Bluegrass sweetheart Kristy Cox is bringing some of the best musicians in the industry to join her for a special Bluegrass Comes to Tamworth showcase at the 2015 Tamworth Country Music Festival. Featuring some of the best traditional and acoustic musicians from Australia and overseas, this special one-time only concert is guaranteed to be unforgettable. Joining Kristy on stage will be multi-award winning American songwriter Jerry Salley, as well as Golden Guitar winner Pete Denahy and the Australian Queen of Bluegrass Karen Lynne, plus a few surprise special guests.
Kristy, who now lives in Nashville, has always had an immense love for the Bluegrass genre and is excited to bring a dedicated show to the 2015 festival. She says the show is a chance to showcase the strength of the genre and its future. “It will be a great show of the best musicianship and vocals that Australia has to offer in Bluegrass, a little humour and an overall good time,” she says. “There is a bunch of Bluegrass in Tamworth, but I wanted to put on a show where the audience can see some of my favourite artists all in one show. Having Jerry Salley come out from the USA also made me want to do something extra special.”
It has been a busy year for this country songstress, she officially launched her latest album Living For The Moment at the 2014 Tamworth Country Music Festival ahead of its world wide release in February. Building on her already strong fan base garnered from her previous release Miles and Timezones, her new album showed a depth of maturity for the now Nashville-based artist. Recorded at Crossroad Studios in Arden, NC with Jerry Salley acting as producer and released through Bluegrass label Pisgah Ridge (an imprint of Mountain Home), it has earned her acclaim from music critics internationally. Kristy’s career just keeps going from strength to strength, with accolades such as Female Vocalist of the Year (2013) and Entertainer of the Year (2013) from the Australian Independent Country Awards, it is evident this impressive singer songwriter is one to keep an eye on.
For Kristy, despite now living in the country music capital of the world, there is no place like home – and the Tamworth Country Music Festival is always on her agenda every year. She still counts performing at the 2013 Golden Guitar awards as one of her favourite memories of all time. “There really is no place like home,” she says. “I have learnt a lot about music in my time in the USA, I love that I get to share that with my fans here at home. The Tamworth Country Music Festival is one event that I have not missed… nor do I plan to in the future.”
Having firmly found her feet in the Bluegrass genre, Kristy says she is excited that the style is garnering so much support in the Australian country music industry. “Bluegrass music originated in the USA, however it is a growing genre here in Australia,” she says. “I am excited about sharing the stage with some of my favourite pickers from the USA and Australia… and seeing how the differences are going to make for something quite extraordinary. I love Bluegrass and I love performing… I love Australia and I love the USA. I really couldn’t ask for much more than what this show is going to offer – it’s all my loves in one.”
