FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Circus fans will be delighted by the return of the popular Elixir show to the Wonderland Spiegeltent for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. This stunning circus event has received rave reviews in the past as it brings together the aptitude and skill of the Melbourne acrobatic troupe, Head First Acrobats. Featuring the incredible skill of head acrobats and choreographers Cal Harris and Thomas Gorham, the show is a breathtaking mix of incredible circus stunts and some unexpected laughs.
Three acrobatic and enthusiastic scientists attempt to create the elixir of life. The scenes are an eclectic mix of high intensity acrobatics, live music and projections all blended into one incredible contemporary circus show. The high tech laboratory is the setting, the subjects of the tests are the researchers themselves and the subsequent acrobatic mayhem is world class. With some of the rarest apparatus in the world, these three have mastered circus skills thought impossible, truly original and amazing. The show features ‘hardcore tricks, gutsy attitude, live music, projections and physical comedy.
As a third year NICA student, Cal Harris specialises in handstands, acrobatics and ladder work. He has performed around the world and has honed his skills working the streets as busker. Thomas Gorham is a 2011 graduate of NICA and he has worked in over 15 different countries for a variety of circus performers. He started his career break dancing at the age of 15 and always had an intense interest in all things circus. Thomas launched Head First Acrobats in 2013 and the company has been going from strength to strength.
Elixir recently returned from a stellar set at the Adelaide Fringe, receiving rave reviews. Dubbed as a show that audiences would be “sorry to miss”, the spectacular acrobatics, combined with the slap-stick and creative storyline make for an incredible evening of entertainment. Elixir is rated 15+ and is recommended for audiences 15 years and over – venue regulations require those aged 15-17 years to be accompanied by an adult.
