FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE

Jess Holland

Single This Ol’ Guitar released to radio on Friday 1st May 2015

Country dynamo Jess Holland is showcasing a different side of herself musically with the release of the third single This Ol’ Guitar from her second long-player Whole Lot To Say. The stripped back acoustic track is one of the singer’s favourites from her album and has become a popular hit at her live shows. It is an apt follow-up from her previous two singles – Revolving Door and Fine Lines – and is one of the rawest tracks on her album, just Jess and her guitar, giving a perfect demonstration of her incredible vocal talent.

This Ol’ Guitar tells the story of an old guitar and the pride of place it has in the heart of its owner, and unsurprisingly, it is a personal tale. In fact, Jess still has the guitar that the song is penned about – an old battered nylon string that she took everywhere with her. It was the guitar that she cut her teeth on and so has a special sentimental value.

“The guitar still sits under my bed at home,” says Jess. “It doesn’t come out very often because it’s pretty battered up and had a fair bit of play time. I am pretty lucky to have grown up in a musical family, always surrounded by instruments, music and being encouraged to play. I was given my first guitar at a young age from my auntie and she taught me my first three chords.”

The idea for the track was buzzing around in her head for a while prior to Jess sitting down to put it on paper. “It did not take long to write,” she says. “I knew I wanted to keep it quite stripped down and just have guitar and vocals, so the rest just fell into place. It was the quickest track to record and finish because there is only two elements. I just wanted to keep the sound raw and real to showcase the lyrics. There was a no frills approach to this one.”

Jess Holland hasn’t really stopped working since the release of her debut album Introducing… Jess Holland in 2011. The subsequent singles My Kinda Town, Iddy Biddy Pride and Cigarettes & Whiskey all received great radio support. Throughout her career, she has toured through central, western and northern New South Wales in support of the likes of Luke Dickens, Diesel and Adam Brand. She’s also a three-time Toyota Star Maker finalist and has been earning acclaim from fans and critics alike. She released her second album Whole Lot To Say in March 2014 to rave reviews.

Since then she has been consistently out on the road, touring the width and breadth of the country, garnering new fans at every show. She has performed a host of solo headline shows, as well as joining the bill on some of the country’s most prestigious festivals, such as Deni Ute Muster, Gulgong Folk Festival and her annual pilgrimage to the Tamworth Country Music Festival. She is already planning a northern run later in the year, as well as a performance at the upcoming Mildura Country Music Festival. Fans can also expect to hear some new music in the not too distant future as Jess gets ready to pen her third album, due for release in 2016.
