FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
The Docklands Blues Music Festival is dedicated to supporting the talent of local artists – national and Victorian like. One look at the impressive line-up demonstrates a showcase of blues musicians from all walks of life and experience, ensuring the October festival is one to highlight on the cultural calendar. Joining the bill in 2015 is Wonderland Spiegeltent regular and prolific performer Lloyd Spiegel.
With an impressive back catalogue of recordings and a healthy performance history, not to mention a bunch of accolades to his name, Lloyd Spiegel is a true gem in the Australian blues scene. He is one of the most respected guitarists in Australia and in 2012 he was included in Australian Guitar Magazine’s list of the top 50 Australian guitarists of all time. A mentor as well to countless young up and coming artists, Spiegel has played all over the world and supported some of the globe’s biggest blues legends, including Bob Dylan, Etta James and Ray Charlies. He is simultaneously classic and contemporary, representing traditional blues and re-inventing the style consistently — leading young protégés to multi-award winning success and paving the way for the new kids on the block. He is the epitome of what the blues scene is all about and he lives it and breathes it completely.
Raised in Melbourne, Spiegel won his first talent competition at age 10, an impressive accomplishment that soon followed with the formation of his first band: Midnight Special. Even more impressive was the recording of his debut record at the age of 15. A precocious singer-songwriter and performer, Spiegel didn’t waste time in getting his name and music out to the Aussie public. Today he performs headlining shows and festivals globally, fusing his formidable blues signature style with soul, funk, folk and soft rock. He recently released Double Live Set, a live anthology recording of two sell out concerts at the Wonderland Spiegeltent, celebrating an incredible 25 years on stage.
The line-up for the Docklands Blues Music Festival also includes US headliner Chris Cain, as well as featuring the likes of The Melbourne Jukes, Room 15, Jesse Valach & Blues Mountain, Safari Motel, Paulie Bignell & The Thornbury Two and Sweet Felicia & The Honeytones (featuring Eddy Boyle) performing on the Melbourne Star stage. The Harbour Town Mall stage includes performances Dog Gone South, Wilson & White, Miss Whiskey and Nick Charles. An equally impressive line-up takes to the stage at the Harbour Town Hotel with Peninsula Youth in Blues, MBAS Youth in Blues, Forth Avenue Band (featuring Women In Blues), Southbound Tram and Black Pearl on the bill. The main stage inside the Wonderland Spiegeltent not only features headliner Chris Cain, but an enviable list of the who’s who of Australian blues. The non-stop entertainment features Isaiah B Brunt, Blue Eyes Cry, Mick Dog’s Bone Yard, Alex Burns Blues Band, Kelly Auty’s Wild Women, Dream Boogie, and return favourites Gregg Dodd & The Hoodoo Men.
Lloyd Spiegel will be bringing his unique brand of blues to the 2015 Docklands Blues Music Festival – don’t miss this free, family friendly event.
