FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
Country sweetheart Tori Darke is wrapping up an impressive year in suitable style with the release of her latest single, the title track from her second long player Silver Lining. The album, which debuted at #1 on the Australian ARIA Chart earlier in the year, has already garnered the singer-songwriter rave reviews around the country. It shows a more personal and mature side to Tori’s music and has been an ongoing work in progress since her debut release Dreams and Chances.
On the eve of the single – which is released to radio on Friday 20th November – Tori Darke has just been selected as a finalist for the 2016 Golden Guitars as Female Artist of The Year. The winners of the 44th CMAA Country Music Awards of Australia will be announced at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.
When it came to picking the third single release from the album, the heart-warming title track Silver Lining was an early choice. Penned by Nashville-based songwriters Jeff Cohen and Victoria Banks, when Tori first heard the song she instantly felt a connection to it and considered it a priority to put forward for the album.
“Silver Lining has a strong and positive message,” says Tori. “It’s very current and has a catchy chorus. After showing Silver Lining to my producer, Andrew Cochrane, it was pretty much decided by both of us that it would make a great name for the album and would be the title track. My interpretation is that Silver Lining tells the story of not everyone being lucky enough to find a love that lasts, but knowing there is another chance of love is such an exciting adventure. It is a song that I love playing at gigs and I cannot wait for it to be heard on radio.”
For a second album release, Silver Lining shows a definite maturity and it is evident that Tori is completely comfortable in her sound. The album itself was a four-year labour of love which involved multiple trips to Nashville on songwriting trips to make sure the content for the album was exactly what she envisioned.
“I wanted this album to showcase the change from a younger person to a more mature and creative artist,” Tori says. “Life experiences over the past four years have helped me to mature and grow within myself. I feel this album definitely shows this. It is sometimes difficult when starting a new album, you put a lot of pressure on yourself for it to be good and you want it to be the best work you have ever done. I was incredibly picky about choosing the songs and took my time deciding on what was and wasn’t going to make it on the album.”
When it came to recording the title track, Silver Lining, Tori took special time to make sure she nailed it. The end result is something she can be incredibly proud of, making it an apt song for not only the title of the album, but as the introduction track to her second long player. Recorded at FX Productions in Queensland, the track was really brought to life by producer and engineer Andrew (Cochrane) and mastered by Matthew Gray.
“Being in the studio is never easy and this song really put me to the test,” Tori says. “The verses are so different rhythmically and in the way that it is sung. Even though it was a much harder song, I had such an amazing experience recording the track. We really had fun with it.”
With the release of her new single and a Golden Guitars nomination, Tori is also gearing up for a special one show only gig at Tamworth Country Music Festival in the new year. In addition, she will be announcing a swag of Australian tour dates in 2016 to share her music with fans around the country. There is no doubt that the future is bright for Tori Darke and Silver Lining is just the beginning.
