FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – MEDIA RELEASE
After a massive show in Adelaide in June, Absolutely Live – The Doors Tribute Show are returning to The Gov by popular demand for a very special, very psychedelic Christmas show this December. When it comes to music that truly shaped a generation, it doesn’t get more important or influential than that of The Doors. While music fans may never get a chance to see this enigmatic band live in the flesh again, they can revel in the next best thing, a concert experience by Australia’s beloved Absolutely Live – The Doors Tribute Show. Revered for their extraordinary performances, and lead singer Tony Dee’s uncanny resemblance to the late Jim Morrison, Absolutely Live takes audiences on a journey of unbidden music passion.
For Tony Dee, returning to Adelaide for the band’s final show for 2015 was an easy decision and one the entire band is really looking forward to. “Unlike many heritage and tribute acts, we can say the Doors show holds its own,” he says. “Now, after 25 years the band have been no strangers to big rock shows in Australia. We decided to end the year in Adelaide in December. We have found that if you love life, life will love you back, and this is why our last show is in Adelaide. Our fans have given us so much and now it is time to give back.”
The upcoming Christmas show promises to embody that spirit of classic music and more. “Audiences should expect the unexpected,” says Tony. “Come with an open mind and be immersed in the essence of psychedelic entertainment, with the transformation of The Gov as they know it to the original Whiskey A Go Go from yesteryear 1969. We authentically recreate The Doors legend, performing with all the power and conviction required to take you back to a time when a band didn’t just play live, they produced a major event. Audiences can expect a memory that will stay with them forever.”
Absolutely Live – The Doors Tribute Show formed in 1992 and have been going strong ever since. The five founding members found themselves at a musical quandary, deciding that there was not enough representation of classic rock on the live music scene and that someone needed to do something about it. Enter Absolutely Live, a project that is 100 per cent devoted to the music and talents of The Doors ensemble. The five members – Tony Dee [vocals], Wolfie [drums], Markus K [keys], Richie [guitar] & The Pad [bass] – pay homage the best way they know how to one of the biggest bands on the planet.
The Doors smashed onto the music scene in 1967 and it was never the same again. Known for their genre-blending style, their songs are uncompromising and provocative. With tracks like Light My Fire, Back Door Man, Break On Through (to the Other Side), Love Me Two Times, When The Music’s Over and Roadhouse Blues to name a few, their indelible imprint on popular culture is undeniable. The band released six studio albums prior to Jim Morrison’s passing in 1971. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the 1990s and their name is synonymous with the 1960s music scene.
Recreating such influential music, especially in keeping the authenticity is a heady responsibility, and something Absolutely Live take very seriously. “Before each show our band gathers in the green room to lubricate our talents with a nip of Jack Daniels, Tennessee Whisky,” says Tony. “At this moment we channel our energy together as though it’s the first time we’re going on stage. Our passion is brought to the forefront so the moment we step on that stage, the arena becomes our theatre.”
There is no doubt that Absolutely Live – The Doors Tribute Show will be putting on one big party for their final show for 2015 – one that audiences are asked to share with the band. “A live concert to us is exciting because of all the electricity that is generated in the crowd and then to us on stage,” says Tony. “It is like someone tattooed you with a memory. I’m talking about Adelaide and the audience we had at The Gov in June – this is why we are going back, to relive the magic one more time at our last show for 2015. Adelaide, let the ceremony begin.”
