4X4 Across Australia Tour

Legendary Aussie rock band The Angels have announced that this weekend’s shows – scheduled for South Morang and Mulgrave on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th April – will go ahead will former guitarist Bob Spencer filling in for Rick Brewster. Lead guitarist Rick Brewster was hospitalised last week with an infection and is expected to be discharged within the next couple of days, but is under doctors orders to rest for the remainder of the week. Spencer, who was a permanent member of the band from 1986-1992, has stepped up to fill in for the last two shows of the tour while Rick recuperates.

Rhythm guitarist John Brewster says Rick has said that the show must go on and is appreciative of their close friend and former band mate Bob stepping in to assist at this time. “One of Rick’s biggest worries while ill has been letting fans down by cancelling shows,” says John. “We are grateful that Bob is available to help out for these last two shows on the tour. We are looking to reschedule last week’s cancelled shows when Rick is better.”

The Angels’ 4×4 Across Australia tour has seen the band digging through their back catalogue to pick some of their biggest hits for the special run of shows. They’ve hand-picked four of their most iconic records, and playing, back-to-back, four hits from each record. Add to that an encore that featured a swag of more classic tracks, and the 4×4 shows have been playing to packed houses.

While it will be a bittersweet experience wrapping up the tour without Rick on stage, John says the most important thing is that he rests and recovers. “The doctors are really pleased with how Rick is progressing,” he says. “It will be great when he comes out of hospital this week, but he will need a week or two of rest – even if he doesn’t want to – to get back on his feet. Rick can’t wait to get back on stage with The Angels again and we are looking forward to announcing more tour dates in the not too distant future. This experience will make playing alongside Rick again all the more special.”
