BRAVO! Cruise Of The Performing Arts 2017

Music festival on the high seas brings together the best talent from Australia and overseas for seven big nights, departing Sydney

The performing arts festival of the high seas – BRAVO! – is back with another stellar line-up for 2017. Headlined by iconic international superstar Jose Carreras, the seven-nights and eight-day South Pacific cruise on the luxurious Radiance of the Seas liner brings together some of the best musicians from Australia and overseas. This is a rare opportunity for performing arts lovers to experience some of the best music in the world, while exploring some of the world’s most beautiful locations – Isle of Pines and Noumea in New Caledonia.

Jose Carreras needs little introduction – he is considered an opera superstar. From launching his career in the 1970s performing in great tenor roles to becoming a household name as part of The Three Tenors in the 1990s alongside Luciano Pavarotti and Placido Domingo, his live performances are revered. Music is still one of the most important parts of his life and he always brings that passion to the stage. Joining him for the BRAVO! cruise is renowned conductor maestro David Gimenez, who has led some of the world’s most distinguished orchestras and soloists at venues such as Royal Albert Hall, New York’s Carneige Hall and Sydney Opera House, to name a few.

The line-up for the 2017 cruise is immense – from opera to jazz and everything in between, there is always something onboard to spark the interest. In fact, BRAVO! ambassador Australian tenor David Hobson, who returns to perform as part of the 2017 cruise, considers the musical and theatrical talent on board as brilliant. “There are so many different shows and performances around the ship,” he says. “There is no way you could ever be bored, but you can also find space to just to take time out to chill and relax. Not all, but many of the passengers who join us onboard are classical and music theatre fans. If they weren’t to begin with, they definitely are by the end of the cruise, thanks to the fantastic performances they see.”

Also joining David will be music theatre diva Marina Prior, soprano Taryn Fiebig, bass Jud Arthur, tenors Christopher Hillier and Martin Buckingham, mezzo Tania Ferris, The Voice jazz starlet Emma Pask, as well as Silvie Paladino and Julie Goodwin. Virtuoso brothers Joseph and James Tawadros and The Choir of Hardknocks choirmaster Jonathon Welch also join the esteemed line-up. The Metropolitan Orchestra, conducted by maestro Guy Noble, will accompany the artists; and adding another element, five-time Logie Award winning TV personality Ray Martin will bring his intimate In Conversation With Ray Martin segment onboard.

David says BRAVO! is not just an opportunity to experience the performing arts, but also meet the artists behind them. “Performers mingle with the passengers and with fellow performers in a way not usually possible after a show or concert, which is a lot of fun,” he says. “It’s like a music festival on the high seas. Being on the ship allows great opportunities to interact with the other brilliant artists; we could pop up and spontaneously perform on different areas of the ship, surprising passengers and each other. There is a real sense of common purpose between all the performers – because we are together for a concentrated period of time, there is a fair bit of creativity going on that wouldn’t normally happen.”

The Royal Caribbean’s luxury cruise liner Radiance of the Seas hosts the BRAVO! cruise from 31st October – 7th November 2017. The ship not only features a state-of-the-art 1000-seat theatre, but also a gymnasium, swimming pools, cinema, several different dining options and an impressive nine-storey central atrium. There are multiple performance spaces onboard, all fully equipped to give audiences the best possible experience.

“The theatre itself is extraordinary,” says David. “It is a fully functioning 1000-seat lyric theatre, with a great backstage crew and sound system. To be able to perform with a full orchestra onboard is amazing. The other spaces are equally well equipped and allow for up-close-and-personal interaction between passengers and artists.”
