Damien Leith has many strings to his bow – acclaimed singer-songwriter, author, playwright. It has been almost 12 years since he smashed into the national consciousness on television talent program Australian Idol, and since then Damien hasn’t stopped working. He has eight albums and two novels under his belt, and is about to release his first app – a children’s story app – and has toured the width and breadth of Australia and beyond.
There is no doubt Damien has some interesting experiences under his belt. Add to that an extensive back catalogue of original material and his own interpretations of classic songs, and An Evening With Damien Leith is set to be an evening to remember for music fans. After touring extensively – with a full band, a stage show, and solo – there are always requests for more intimate concerts, where the audience really get to know Damien. So, when it came to announcing the run of dates for early 2018, it was a natural progression to make these up-close-and-personal shows.
“I love the feeling being up close and personal,” he says. “I thought a show like this was a great opportunity for audiences to take a trip down memory lane, as I sing a collection of songs spanning the past 11-plus years of my career. I’ll share stories, tell some jokes, take requests and – what I’m most excited about – I’ll also get to share some new works.”
The tour will be one of Damien’s most intimate to date – just Damien, his guitar or piano. It is in those special moments that audiences will truly get to experience the pure emotion of Damien’s angelic voice. There will be favourites from the eight impressive albums, including Irish classics, and songs like Crying, Hallelujah and Night Of My Life, to name a few. The sneak peek of the new compositions will be a highlight, from songs co-written with other artists, including some tracks Damien has penned especially for the occasion. There will also be some lost treasures and a few surprises.
“I’ll play both piano and guitar and chat about how certain songs came about, or some of the funny things that have happened since Australian Idol,” he says. “The audiences will get to hear all their favourites and so much more. Performing solo has always been a favourite of mine as it is how I started out. I get to chat, change up the set, bounce of the energy of the audience and really get in to the raw emotion of the songs.”
