In what is becoming something of a Christmas tradition, iconic rockers Dragon have announced a special December show at The Palms at Crown with their The Best of Countdown Chartbusters. Celebrating the institution that is Countdown, Dragon have been traversing Australia for three massive tours and are now bringing together all the hits from the UK, USA and Australia – as well as the best of Dragon from 1973-2018 – together for one massive show on December 21.
What started as The Countdown Years, paying homage to the television show in 2016, grew into the ‘Aussie edition’ in 2017, and saw Dragon play more than 50 Countdown-inspired shows over the past two years. Throughout 2018 the band have been touring the 80s UK Chartbusters to packed houses, proving that audiences really do love Countdown.
“When we go to the merch desk and talk to the crowd and do photos, everyone is so connected to Countdown,” says bassist Todd Hunter. “You can really see how the show affected their lives.”
The Best of Countdown Chartbusters will take in a huge array of classic tracks. “We have included the songs that went over best in the UK80s and Aussie Chartbusters tours,” says Todd. “We are looking for a few great US songs for next year’s USA tour. When we say The Best of Countdown Chartbusters we are talking about the songs that went over the best in previous tours – so I guess it is voted by the people!”
Just some of the songs that audiences can expect include the likes of I Was Born For Lovin’ You, Once In A Lifetime, Billie Jean and My Sharona, as well as Heroes, Rebel Yell, Help Is On The Way, Our House and Take On You, to name a few. It is going to be jam-packed with sing-a-long favourites.
Of course, in any Dragon show, no set-list would be complete without the band’s own chart-toppers, and The Best Of Countdown Chartbusters will also feature the best of Dragon. Audiences can expect smash hits such as April Sun in Cuba, Rain, Young Years, Still in Love, Dreams of Ordinary Men and Are You Old Enough to name a few.
This is the last chance for audiences to catch Dragon in full flight for 2018, and the perfect chance for a pre-Christmas party. The band is already shaping up for a massive 2019. In January they are heading off to New Zealand to tour with the legendary Toto, and will be spending a huge chunk of the Australian summer joining the iconic Red Hot Summer Tour. Dragon are also working on their next instalment of the Countdown run and will be announcing dates soon.
