Considered one of Australia’s most talented soul and blues singers, Milena Barrett, is heading to the North for two special evenings of music this December. Bringing her acclaimed funk, blues, soul and rock stylings to BAR36 at The Reef Hotel Casino for the one night only music extravaganza, audiences will be treated to the revered vocalist’s biggest hits and musical influences. Dubbed as the ‘wild child of Etta James and Steve Marriot’, Milena is in Far North Queensland for a whirlwind tour in between her European and United States tours.
Described as having a voice that is a ‘time machine, transporting us back to a jumping back-woods BBQ shack somewhere deep in the Delta, but with the sensitive touch of Parisian nights’, the Australian-born, British singer has been touring relentlessly, playing everywhere from London, to Memphis and Sydney. With a style and vocal power that is reminiscent of the late great Janis Joplin, with the spirit of Amy Winehouse and the sensitivity of Adele, her latest release – Spring – harks back to yesteryear.
Spring resonates back to the 1960s soulful honesty, with her own brand of contemporary songwriting. Filled with gorgeous songs, there is Cry, a truly beautiful track that is both emotional and yet uplifting. Time To Say Goodbye evokes that masterful feeling of falling in love and Milena’s magnificent voice touches the soul. Spring is a fitting release, it showcases this magnificent musician and her incredible talent.
